ATERA Hair Restoration

ATERA Hair Restoration is a state-of-the-art approach that garners real, natural results by using an automated system to relocate healthy hair follicles from donor areas to balding or thinning areas.

Using the follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant method, ATERA Hair Restoration has quickly become the go-to approach and hair transplant technology for giving clients their natural hair back. Here at the Houston Transplant Center, we proudly offer the ATERA system because of its ability to give the patient a thicker, fuller head of naturally regrowing hair. Unlike other methods such as the NEOGRAFT, the benefits of ATERA speak for themselves. But what are they exactly? To learn more about how the ATERA system can benefit you, please feel free to schedule a personal consultation or call us at (713) 864-2300.

About Hair Loss

To understand the advantages of ATERA over NEOGRAFT or the ARTAS Robot or other FUE systems out there such as the WAW, Ellis and Cole FUE systems, we must first understand what causes hair loss. This will help in distinguishing whether ATERA is the right approach for your desired results.

Although hair loss can be embarrassing and greatly affect a person’s self image, it is a common experience. By age 50, 85% of men will experience some degree of hair loss while 25% of those men have been losing their hair since they were 21.[1] For almost of these men experiencing hair loss, it can be the result of male pattern baldness – a condition where Dihydrotestosterone, a byproduct of testosterone, breaks down and weakens hair follicles over time. But this isn’t an exclusively male dominated condition. Throughout their lives, 55% of women will experience some form of hair loss or hair thinning.[2] Hair loss in women can be vastly more detrimental to self-confidence than it is for men.

Now, with a majority of men and women experiencing varying degrees of hair loss, a hair loss solution is needed that provides real, long-lasting, natural results. That’s where ATERA system enters the conversation.

Before and After Photos

History of Hair Transplantation

To understand the benefits of ATERA, it is important to understand previous methods and their pitfalls. Hair restoration procedures have been popular for decades. In recent years, the other well-known and widely practiced technique has been follicular unit transplantation (FUT). It is the rival method to ATERA’s FUE technology. The FUT method begins with removing a strip of skin from the back of the head. This is a donor area – a place that is in good follicular health and abundant in robust hair follicles. Once the strip of skin is removed, the hair follicles are dissected and primed to be inserted into the balding areas. The area where the strip of skin was removed is sutured closed. Next, the hair follicles are manually inserted into the head where they will continue to grow natural hair. After a successful procedure, recovery, and hair growth, the patient would appear to have a naturally full, thick head of hair. It would all seem to look completely fine – in theory. But if we investigate further, we will find some challenges with the FUT method. These are issues that the ATERA FUE system can minimize or avoid.

Benefits of ATERA

No Linear Scarring

One problem many FUT patients found was that they were unable to wear their hair short. Closely clipped hairstyles would reveal the long linear scar on the back of their head. Unlike the FUT approach, ATERA’s FUE system extracts hair follicles from the donor areas without any incisions, thus leaving no linear scars. This innovative system allows the team to extract a customizable depth and diameter, so that optimal hair follicles are collected regardless of the hair type, curvature or density. And, a better harvest of healthier follicles means more successful grafts, and a thicker, healthier head of hair.

Automated Technology

Another issue seen as a result of the FUT approach was the chance of human error since its a surgical procedure that is dependent on the skill of the surgeon. However, with the ATERA system, the follicle collection and preparation process is automated by computer grafting technology. It also has a digital graft counter. Patients no longer have to worry about an uneven hairline or patchy growth. With ATERA, you can see well executed, uniform results.

Quicker Procedure

Unlike other FUE procedures that span multiple sessions and can take several days, ATERA is an outpatient procedure that takes only one session to complete. ATERA clients with morning appointments are able to leave the office in the afternoon or early evening.

More Hair and a Quicker Recovery

Another aspect of the ATERA system that puts it at the top of its class is how the system maintains the health of the follicle during extraction and storage. Follicles are kept hydrated and cool until implantation. The precise extraction and implantation punches helps diminish the trauma caused to the surrounding tissue during extraction and implantation. In the past, recovery from hair restoration would span a week. However, thanks to this gentler process, you can be fully recovered in a couple of days.

Finally, before you leave your consultation, we will give you a list of preparatory steps that should be adhered to in the interim.

Preparation

  • Shave or cut the hair in the donor area as this will promote a better harvest of healthy follicles during the grafting stage. This can either be performed on your own or Dr. Jezic’s team will be able to do so on the day of your procedure.
  • Avoid blood thinning medications and Vitamin E as this can cause excessive bleeding during your ATERA treatment.
  • Avoid nicotine and alcohol as these substances can hamper the body’s natural ability to heal and recover.

Results

After your ATERA FUE hair transplant procedure, you will begin to gradually notice some changes. The hair will appear to grow out in the treated areas but then fall out in a few weeks. Not to worry! This means the roots have been planted successfully. Next, the hair follicles will grow new hair.  In a matter of six months, your hair will grow a thicker, fuller head of natural hair. Long-term results are generally visible in about a year. Say goodbye to combovers, wigs, hair systems, hair pieces and toupees. Still don’t believe us? FAQ

Where else can I find ATERA Hair Restoration?

Houston Hair Transplant Center is the only hair restoration center in Texas with the ATERA FUE system in Texas. As the only clinic in the state to offer the ATERA approach, we here at Houston Hair Transplant Center are proud to exclusively offer our clients its incredible benefits.

How long does it take to recover after an ATERA Hair Transplant?

Following your ATERA Hair Restoration procedure, you will be able to return to work the following day. You may even return to full activities, including strenuous activities, the day after. Since the procedure lubricates the hair follicles during the entire duration of the process, the tissue on the head is able to heal more efficiently than FUT (and even some FUE) methods. For the first night, it is important to sleep with the head elevated to reduce swelling around the treated areas.
