You may have heard the line “Invest in your hair, it’s the crown you never take off.”
First impressions matter. In our modern-day society, first impressions are often heavily influenced by a person’s external appearance. We judge people, first and foremost, by what we see (what they look like). It’s unfortunate but true, we live in a rather superficial world - beauty is surface level and outwardly based. But superficiality and ego aside, a person’s appearance directly influences a more crucial human attribute: self-confidence.
We all want to lead a happy and successful life. It is a widely accepted belief that confidence is the key to success. Since the way we look has such a strong impact on our self-confidence, it is extremely important that we always feel we look our best. There are some features that stand out more than others; it is more critical to maintain some physical attributes than others. At the top of the list should be your hair!
Your hair is one of the first things anyone will notice about you. It truly is the crown you wear every single day of your life. If you’re losing some of that crown to male pattern balding, you don’t have to sit back and let it happen anymore. Get a hair transplant!
What are other questions people need to consider?
First of all, is a hair transplant surgery always the best choice? It really depends on the patient. This is why getting a consult with a doctor is important. Are the procedures cheap? It depends. The size and complexity will be a key factor, as well as the experience of the doctor and clinic. But if you are the kind of person that knows the value of a nice house, nice car, or nice cloth, then the right look for your scalp will also be an investment that is worth it in the long term.
Our hair transplant patients are so happy with their results that we are often asked this question:
ow long do I have to wait to have my next hair transplant procedure done?
This has become such a popular question, we decided to write a blog post about it. When it comes to having a second, third, fourth, etc. hair transplant done, we recommend waiting at least 6-12 months from the date of the previous procedure. It is important to allow enough time to pass so that the procedure sites can completely heal. It also takes that same amount of time for the results of the hair transplant to show fully. Those are two things you will want to see when considering another procedure. As you can imagine, the success of your next procedure is going to be greatly influenced by the results of the previous one.
Some people also ask: Is there a limit to how many transplant procedures can a person have? There really is no limit on the number of procedures a person can have; rather, the limit is on the total number of grafts. Generally, the maximum number of grafts recommended for transplants is about 6,000 grafts for most patients. But the number of grafts done per procedure is up to you!
Another question we are frequently asked is: How long does the procedure take?
The length of each procedure varies from patient to patient; however, we typically estimate procedures to take a total of anywhere between 4 to 6 hours. Afterwards, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and rest!

Procedures can seem scary. Certain procedures have specific prepping instructions that restricts your daily routines and diets. Some procedures have explicit postoperative instructions that have to be carefully followed in order to reduce infection or to make sure your body can heal properly. Thinking about these things can make your head hurt but before and after care isn’t always this intensive.
Smaller procedures don't always require patients to do much and aren’t as restricting. With FUE most patients can continue their regular daily routines up until their procedure date. There’s no fasting involved or dietary restrictions and no prior medication is needed. Most patients are able to go back to work as soon as the next day with a few restrictions such as not strenuous physical activity. After about seven to 10 days, patients are able to fully return to everyday normal activities including things like exercise.
FUE hair transplants are considered minimally invasive which means that it is a smaller case that doesn’t involve the use of many instruments or other objects into the body. FUE doesn’t use a scalpel like FUT would. For the patients this means no cutting of the scalp, line scarring or stitches. This also dramatically reduces the risk of infection and postoperative care is at a minimum. Patient’s don’t have to worry about open wounds or removing stitches.
Anything is possible with the right knowledge, help and people. Don’t be afraid of exploring your options and doing some research on the best hair transplant method for your particular case. Talk to your doctor about any questions you may have. Before you know it, you’ll be on your way to a full head of hair

There are always pros and cons to every choice we make. Of course it seems like most people tend to err on the side caution whenever deciding. This is no different than when patients decide what treatments they want to follow through with. Doctors go over the risks and benefits of the treatments but it is ultimately the patient's decision on what he or she will do. The FUE hair restoration method, though has many advantages, does have some disadvantages. Here is a simple list of what you can expect from an FUE hair transplant to help guide you in making your choice.
The advantages include:
The disadvantages include:
Every procedure is different since everyone has different factors that could affect the procedure’s outcome. Don’t forget to always ask your doctor about how they might affect you individually.
When diving into any new subject, catching up on all the strange lingo may be hard. In the world of medicine, long ridiculous sounding terms are constantly being thrown around but with no quaint definition to go with them. Hair transplants and its terminology can sound extremely scary like FUE, Neograft and Artas Robot. What do they mean and why are they important to know?
For starters, FUE is an abbreviation for ‘follicular unit extraction’. This is just one of the two types of hair transplants that can be done on patients. The FUE method extracts hair from the patient’s donor area individually and then transplant them into the recipient site. This may sound scary and painful but it actually isn’t because of the use of Neograft and Artas Robot, which cuts out the need to use a scalpel to cut into the scalp. This method is minimally invasive and does not require extensive after-care or stitches.
What is Neograft and the Artas Robot? They’re the latest technology in FUE hair restoration. They’re both the same machines that help increase the speed, efficiency and decreases variability when transplanting the hairs on a patient’s head. The Artas and Neograft machine is controlled by the physician and uses a 3-D image-guided program with a robotic arm. It has instant video imaging and an easy-to-use interface.
Now that you know a little more about the machines and FUE method you may be wondering how long it will take before your results will show with this method.
With FUE it can full results can take anywhere between six to eighteen months. Your transplanted hairs will grow as fast as your hair normally does - it’s as simple as that. Hair transplants may sound scary but the more you know, the less scary it will seem.

One of the first questions you may have when beginning your research on hair transplants is if you are a good candidate to get one. What factors play a part in a successful procedure and do they apply to you? What can keep you from potentially being a good candidate? It’s easy and understandable to feel overwhelmed in the beginning which is why we’ve set up some easy guidelines for you to start thinking about.
The norwood scale was created to diagnose hair loss. If you are considered to have norwood 3 or 6 or less on the scale, hair transplants might be a good route for you. The best age range for a hair transplant is between 25 to 65 years of age. If you are a little younger or older than the recommended age your procedure success may be effected.
Be sure to check to see your glucose and blood levels. A good candidate should not have uncontrolled diabetes or uncontrolled high blood pressure. If you have heart or liver diseases or conditions these may stop you from getting a hair transplant as well. Make sure to discuss with your primary care doctor about these factors and to let your hair physician know if you suffer from these conditions as these could potentially pose a huge risk for you as a hair transplant recipient.
Some other factors to consider is if you have the time or the financial means to have a procedure done. If you do not have much time and is looking for a quick fix, this procedure may not be for you. While hair transplants may be affordable in some cases, if you are stretching on money it might not be worth the push as finding time off and paying for the procedure depends solely on you and your capabilities.
Many other factors can play a part in your eligibility to have a procedure done, but these are just a few major things to keep in mind whenever you begin your research process. Do not be discouraged and just make sure you are fully informed of all the risks and benefits of getting a procedure. It is extremely important to talk to your doctor about your specific situation to take the next steps in getting a hair transplant.
With all procedures, big or small, there will always be risks and side effects. Although a FUE hair transplant is minimally invasive, it does pose several side effects such as slight pain, infection and temporary swelling. Though this is a rare occurrence, it is never a bad thing to be prepared for what could happen after a procedure. Even though the world of medicine is constantly changing, improving, and progressing forward, it is not perfect.
Pain and infections after a procedure is rare but it does occur in some cases. This is why it is important to follow post-op instructions by your doctor to help minimize your chances of developing pain or infections. In surgical restoration medicine, like all healthcare, things might not always go perfectly all the time and the best and safest route to take is a cautious one. Trying to prevent an infection is a lot easier than having to fight the infection. Swelling is also rare but can look extreme in some cases. This can be normal and as long as you follow the post-op instructions should be harmless.
Choosing the right doctor for you is also crucial to the safety and success of your procedure. Your hair physician will be the one examining your case, performing the procedure and taking care of you after the procedure is completed. Make sure you and your hair physician understand each other and have gone over all the risk, side effects or any other concerns that you may have.
Also, make sure your doctor knows of any allergies to medications that you have. You do not want surprised reactions during a procedure. Some patients with heart and liver disease are also not good candidates so those details are important to review.
Sometimes things happen outside of our control and watch. No matter how major or minor a procedure is, there is always risks and side effects to keep in mind and watch for. We may not be able to predict what will or will not happen, but it is a good habit to be extremely cautious to follow after procedure care to minimize any risks. Make sure to select a doctor that you are most comfortable to work with to help ensure the best experience you can have.
Hair transplants have come a long way in the world of medicine. As restoration has progressed throughout the years, so have the techniques. Some new techniques available are now considered minimally invasive, such as the follicular unit extraction, also known as FUE. But what does minimally invasive mean to a patient?
When hair transplants first started out with the strip technique, aka FUT, it often had a considerably long recovery time, which could last up to several weeks and could leave a large scar on the scalp. FUT uses a scalpel to remove the hair and transplant it elsewhere but with FUE, there is no longer a need for a lengthy recovery time, line scars or scalpel use.
With FUE, some patients are able to return to work as soon as the next day or two. Recovery time may range up until seven to ten days depending on the size and type of work being done patients can still expect a shorter recovery time compared to the FUT technique due to there being no large wounds. Since the FUE procedure is almost usually painless, those few days after your procedure won’t include a painful recovery either.
FUT can also require minimal exercise and physical activity for months after the procedure which could limit a lot of what you can and can’t do on a day to day basis. On the other hand FUE patients are able to jump right back into training after only seven days. So for those who are marathon runners or are weight lifters, FUE will allow you to continue with your daily workouts in no time.
Since there is no scalpel use, only local anesthesia is also used and the procedure is considered a minor one. So now, after just a few days, the patient can return to work and his regular daily routine in no time. With FUE, you don’t have to worry about calling multiple weeks off of work, line scars, or a painful recovery, which is what we mean by minimally invasive.
Finding the right doctor at a convenient location can be a struggle sometimes especially when looking for a specialty clinic such as a hair physician who performs hair transplants. A new breakthrough from research in Japan could serve as a step toward better transplants of skin and hair for people. The research shows that the engineers and researchers were able to successfully transplant skin containing all three layers as well as sebaceous gland and hair follicles by using stem cells to create the new skin cells. They did this by using stem cells and reprogramming them to become full blown and functional skin.
Although the research is still new and in its early stages, this could be a great option in the future since the skin contains everything your natural skin would have. The new skin forms full and functional connections to the muscle, fat, and nerve tissue, allowing transplanted skin to be normal i.e such as growing hair and releasing oils from protective glands. “This would potentially allow for thicker fuller hair with much less invasive approaches than restoration or graft implants.” states Dr Jezic of Houston’s Dr. Jezic's Hair Transplant Center.
For men suffering from male pattern hair loss or would like to have more hair on the head, this could be a great option since the bioengineered skin contains everything just like the skin and hair you were born with and could be programmed in a lab. This could also mean that people who do not qualify for hair transplants currently may have another option available to them in the near future. The study was done in mice but is still incredible due to the ability to get all layers of a very complex organ, the skin, to grow and function from stem cells.
Hair restoration can be quicker and easier on patients. Plus, if you think FUE restoration allows for amazing recovery times, this could be even more instantaneous.
While this procedure is not yet available today, there are many other great options if you are looking to restore fullness to your hair. It’s best to see your hair doctor and speak about the many options that are available to you as well as what’s best for your specific case.
Status symbols come in many forms. It could be the clothes you wear, a watch, a car, a dog, or even a haircut. And these symbols aren't always flashy objects made of gold. Did you know that hair transplants were first instituted by a dermatologist?
While it is a specialty that can be learned by many differing types of physicians such as a general surgeon or your family doctor, dermatologists specialize in the hair and skin having years of focused training on aesthetics. Dermatologists spend years training in the natural beauty of hair and skin.
Now, hair transplants are relatively new in the world of medicine with the first hair transplant done by a Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Otrentreich, in the 1950s in New York. Also, Dr. Unger, who trained with Dr. Otrentreich, characterized the safe zone technique for harvesting hair graft implants soon after. This advancement lead to dramatically improved long term lasting results for restorations.
And it does not stop with there.
From that point on the advances continued. The FUT and FUE techniques were born by other Board Certified Dermatologists, such as:
-Dr. Norwood who created the Norwood scale of men’s hair loss.
-Dr. L. Lee Bosley is the founder of the micrograft process.
-Dr. Limmer introduced the stereo microscope for cutting micro-grafts out of a
strip surgery harve.
-Dr. Inaba who first introduced the follicular unit extraction that was made popular
by fellow dermatologists Dr. Woods and Dr. Bernstein.
As decades go by and modern medicine continues to develop and transform the world around us, exponential advances have and are still being made to restoring men’s thinning hair. Of course other specialties, such as plastic surgery, have also played important roles in transforming hair transplants. New technological advances have helped FUE became more prominent as the introduction of computer guided technology surpassed prior techniques and technology.
Now even all Houston transplant patients have easy access to hair transplant research and knowledge. Maybe for next time, ask your hair physician what their exact degree and some background on their training just so that you can truly understand the history and facts when choosing the right hair surgeon for you.
Many people question whether hair loss can be reversed or stopped completely. Well, for starters, everyone’s case is different when it comes to hair loss. Hair loss can develop from many different reasons, ranging from genetics, disease and even stress. When it comes to stopping or reversing the hair loss it all depends on you. What is causing you to lose hair, and what route of treatment you want to take, whether its medicines or surgery.
Hair loss might not always be so noticeable in the beginning stages, but catching it early is important. There are times where we see many hair loss cases have advanced rapidly or have been present for years which can make them less responsive to treatment. Hairs on the top of your scalp react differently to age and hormones. The hair on the top can decrease with age and hormonal changes.
The best balding treatment option also varies by person. Some options can include rogaine, also known as minoxidil, that is used daily. There is another daily pill that can be taken called finasteride or propecia. This medication is used to help reduce hair thinning. Of course there is also the option of choosing to get a hair transplant if all else fails.
For a hair transplant, we use hair follicles from the back of the head, which is more resistant to aging and hormonal changes. The hairs on the back of the head requires little maintenance no matter where it is placed, compared to the hairs on the top of the head. That is why we extract your back hairs for the transplant.
While there are a few options out there for you to pick and choose from, it is always best to come see your hair doctor about the causes of your hair loss and from there, what route would be best for you in your specific case.
With society trying to become more healthy and fit, a question we also get asked a lot is how long do you have to wait before you can resume physical activity/working out after getting a hair transplant procedure done? And how extensive can I work out?
Play it safe, you should wait until after seven days before resuming physical activities such as going to the gym and getting in a good workout. This is to let your new hairs settle and to help prevent things from hitting or touching your scalp which could affect the hair growth later on. The days may vary depending on other variables so you should make sure to also discuss this in your consult with the Dr. Jezic's Hair Transplant Team.
If you do want to be somewhat active doing light workouts such as a simple walk through the neighborhood or park can be done after a day or two from your procedure date. Just make sure you aren’t running or jogging because that will be too rough for your body to handle at the time. It is okay to have some sun exposure, but absolutely no sun tanning. This could cause burns and could affect your results from the procedure.
After seven days, you should be able to get back on your feet and into your regular daily routines again. It does not matter how hard core you are in most cases, the healing is overall done at that point since we use no scalpel or stitches and you have no line scar like in the older FUT method or hair graft implants.
Remeber, our hair restoration consults are free, so come in any time to either of our two locations.
One of the first things you may ask your doctor is if the results are permanent. Why go through with a procedure when you’ll just have to get it redone later? So is the hair transplant permanent?
Similar to any other transplant, hair restoration is done by redistribution. In this case, we move and transplant hair follicles. We move DHT resistant hairs to replace the fallen and thinning DHT sensitive hairs. The results are expected to be long lasting, and usually last a lifetime. But, outside factors may affect the staying power of the hair (regardless of DHT sensitivity).
Things that can affect the hair externally includes going through trauma or chemotherapy. This can cause a different pattern of hair loss that is general and more diffuse(think of the classic cancer patient on chemo). The good new is that these do seldom cause continued hair loss once treated and managed. However, these medical conditions do need to be accounted for in any hair transplant procedure.
However, barring chemotherapy and major medical conditions most people are in good shape. The good thing about transplanted hairs is that they do not fall out due to the same reasons your native hairs fell to cause male pattern hair loss i.e DHT because of DHT. This is because transplanted hairs are DHT resistant. So general medical disease will cause general hair loss, but male pattern DHT prone hair loss only affects your native top of scalp hairs but not the transplanted hairs. This means you get to keep your new hairs for a long time.
The doctor will help try to get long-lasting results and go over all the details when you are seen for a consultation. This way, the doctor can see what the best route is in your specific case by examining your donor and recipient sites as well as what kind of hair loss you have.
Remember, not everyone is the same so every procedure will be different from the last. Many other factors play into deciding the route you should take when getting a procedure done. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and make sure that you do speak to your hair physician about your situation.
Guys, are you looking for ways to spice up your love life? Trying to rekindle a fire in the bedroom? Well, don't listen to the tabloids - or you might wind up literally starting a fire! The sex tips in some magazines are so ridiculous that you wonder how they ever got printed. Here's a list of 23 outrageous tips that definitely WON'T work! In fact, some of these may be bad for your health or lead to embarrassing doctor visits. So if you think its tough to go in to talk about balding, imagine having to go in to explain some of the below.
NOTICE: Graphic language below
As the world begins to continuously evolve, so does the market for consumption by the public. To combat this, many people have gone to building their own business, becoming their own boss. Essentially, being an entrepreneur.
While it is tough to make it out there and there may be a 80 to 90 percent failure rate, some successful entrepreneurs have given us some of their quirky habits for success in the field.
The first habit actually isn’t that quirky. It’s sticking to a regimented schedule. This allows less time for distractions during your busy work day and maximizes the amount of work that can be done. Plan ahead and set out designated time slots for you to focus your energy into one thing.
Also, make lists at the beginning of your day or the night before so whenever you start working, you know exactly what you need to do. It forces you to think your day through and helps you better prepare yourself and plan out how to execute a task. This helps you from being scatterbrained and once you get into the hang of things you’ll notice how much more productive you are.
Another good habit is to set three specific goals weekly and monthly and forget about the rest until those are achieved. When you’re trying to fix a billion wrong things all at once you’re most likely not going to get very far in each of them. So focus your time on three different ones and you’ll start to notice how much progress you can make in those in bettering your business.
Building a business from scratch is hard but keeping yourself focused, determined and organized will help your success rate sore.
Does balding affect your ability to succeed? It probably does not have a direct correlation though it may indirectly alter your path via the effect of hair loss on confidence and self esteem. With that said, hair transplants are another option to consider in the path to success.
While some may worry about having sweaty, helmet-hair after winning a long football game, that was never a problem Brian Urlacher had to deal with… until now.
Brian Urlacher, a former Chicago Bears NFL linebacker, was always recognized for his clean, bald head on and off the field. Urlacher experienced significant hair loss while in high school almost 20 years ago and decided to cut his hair short ever since giving him his signature bald look.
But a friend, who was also once bald, approached him and pitched Urlacher the idea of getting a procedure done like he had. After seeing amazing results on his friend who had a hair transplant surgery, Urlacher decided to check out this option and combat his hair loss once and for all.
A year after getting the procedure done, Urlacher made an appearance on Tuesday on Chicago’s WGN News after hiding his head under a hat for four months and shocked everybody.
Urlacher, now with a full head of hair was ready to take on the world once more as a spokesperson for RESTORE the hair transplant facility. You could see his excitement beam on his face as he talks about his great results even explaining how his procedure was done. He was left with no line scarring and was in and out of the clinic in a day due to getting the FUE procedure done.
While his friend of his had great results and was happy with it, Urlacher was scared if he didn’t like his new look. After 20 years of being bald, this would be a dramatic change. “If I got it done and didn’t like it, guess what?” Urlacher said, “I could still shave my head because there’s no line scarring. I could have shaved my head… but I liked it.”
Urlacher wasn’t afraid to take the risk and knew that all he had to do was cut it again if he didn’t like the change. For him, and for many others, he didn’t need to cut it all off again. His results proved that his procedure was a success.
“It was pretty shocking to me as well.” Urchaler said during the interview on Chicago’s WGN News. “I didn’t think it’d work honestly, but it worked.”
"Hair restoration is no longer the invasive procedure it use to be and more people are starting to see that every day. You can be back at work or playing sports in no time" stated Dr. Jezic at Houston's Dr. Jezic's Center.

The icey cold weather spikes a peak in runny noses and colds, however there are a few myths that you shouldn’t believe anymore.
Running outside during the winter with wet hair might not be the warmest and most comfortable thing to do, but it isn’t the reason why you’ve caught a cold (as most people like to believe). The real cause? Viruses.
Viruses have a higher survival rate that runs from late spring to early fall. This is because viruses thrive better during a time of high humidity. But why does it seem like we often catch more colds during the winter?
Well for starters we usually aren’t crowded together indoors as often during warmer weather as we are in the harsh winter cold. With many people in the same vicinity, there’s no escaping viruses transferring. Physical transfer and airborne viruses are more susceptible to transfer from one person to another when we are packed in a mall like sardines.
Washing your hands and using alcohol hand-sanitizer help reduce the spread of germs and viruses, but recent studies have shown that airborne viruses are causing more people to become sick than physical transfer. Viruses that are airborne can’t be avoided either!
Though you won’t become sick just because you go outside with wet hair, the cold weather does weaken your immune system and can cause you to be more inclined to catching the viruses.
Keep your body and your head protected with warm clothing and hats to help keep your blood flowing and your body warm. A hat won’t cause hair loss or make balding worse which is another myth to bust. Wearing a hat won’t make you go bald unless the hat is so tight that it pulls your hair out of your hair. So don’t be afraid to keep yourself warm while staying stylish during the harsh winter weather.
A common question that we get is “what is a graft”? Well a graft is taken from one part of the body and moved to another. In a hair transplant, the follicular unit grafts are autografts. Each graft can contain from one to several hairs. The number of hair per graft is also important because this defines the density of it.
Now you may be wondering how many grafts you will need. This varies from person to person. Since everyone is not the same, the amount of graft depends totally on you. Hair number and density vary with race and are reduced with age. Someone with complete male pattern hair loss may need thousands of grafts while those that have residual hair, someone who has thinning hair but not completely bald, do not require as many hairs.
Many factors play into what the size of your procedure will be. Things such as ethnic, dark, longer hair styles and other factors can also achieve hair fullness with fraction of these numbers.
These are a many reasons why discussing with your doctor plays an important part in having a successful procedure. Be prepared with realistic goals for the procedure but do keep in mind that many patients do come out happy with their results and you potentially can as well.
With the new neograft FUE method that we offer here hair restoration has made a bigger presence on the market. Feel free to come in for a consultation with us to see how many grafts you may need!

When it comes to getting a hair transplant, most people wonder if it will be noticeable that they just had a procedure done. Well it doesn’t have to be noticeable, in the donor site, thanks to the long hair transplant, also known as the undetectable graft or undetectable fue.
The long hair transplant allowed a patient of ours to avoid a noticeable short hair cut. It doesn’t even look like the patient did anything new to his hair! This approach to hair restoration does not alter the appearance of the recipient area so no worries. It won’t affect your hair restoration outcome.
The haircut done for the procedure is very discreet and extremely hard to see and with the hair covering the area where the hair was harvested, most wouldn’t even know that there was anything done to the area. The harvested area comes out still looking clean and clear.
The patient is able to go back to work the very next day without having to worry about finding a way to cover up his head. There is no need to go dig out a loose fitting hat to cover up anymore!
But like every procedure, there are some limitations and restrictions when opting to get a long hair transplant. For instance this procedure is often only done with the procedure is set for 1000-500 grafts or less. The hair must be several inches long as well. Sometimes, a shave or cut may still be necessary to the recipient site of the transplant. If that was the case, it may still take seven days before the patient can look normal as the haircut may be visible then.
What else is important to remember? Even when we do this approach, it is usually but not always 100% undetectable as every patient is unique. Also. the recipient site may be the real concern. This area can be detectable for 5-7 days. So it is great that the donor can be hidden, just do not forget about the recipient site. You can reach us anytime for questions or concerns at the Dr. Jezic's Hair Transplant Center in Houston. And remember, all patients are unique and results may vary.
